Conciudadanos:

La voz de mi país me llama de nuevo para ejecutar las funciones de su magistrado en jefe. Cuando la ocasión adecuada para ello debiera llegar, trataré de expresar el alto sentido que me embarga por este distinguido honor, y de la confianza que se ha depositado en mí por el pueblo de Estados Unidos.

Previo a la ejecución de cualquier acto oficial del Presidente, la Constitución exige un juramento de cargo. Este juramento que ahora estoy a punto de tomar, y en vuestra presencia, que si se encuentro durante mi administración del Gobierno que en cualquier instancia he violado voluntariamente o a sabiendas la medida cautelar de la misma, se me permitirá (además de incurrir en el castigo Constitucional) estar sujeto a los reproches de todos los que ahora son testigos de la presente ceremonia solemne.

I am again called upon by the voice of my Country to execute the functions of its Chief Magistrate. When the occasion proper for it shall arrive, I shall endeavour to express the high sense I entertain of this distinguished honor, and of the confidence which has been reposed in me by the people of United America.

Previous to the execution of any official act of the President, the Constitution requires an Oath of Office. This Oath I am now about to take, and in your presence, 56 that if it shall be found during my administration of the Government I have in any instance violated willingly, or knowingly, the injunction thereof, I may (besides incurring Constitutional punishmt) be subject to the upbraidings of all who are now witnesses of the present solemn Ceremony.
